Despite thousands visiting the beach every summer, East End’s proactive lifeguarding skills mean rescues are few and far between.
Vote today and help East End Surf Life Saving Club win a new Inflatable Rescue Boat.
It was a hot summer’s day when East End lifeguards used an Inflatable Rescue Boat to save two young swimmers who had been swept out in a rip. A young girl (about 15 years) put her hand in the air and immediately an IRB was taken out to surf. She was picked up first then the lifeguards circled around to rescue the boy who quickly complained of nausea having swallowed sea water. He was then transported to A&E via an ambulance. The patrol captain on the day has been a lifeguard for 35 years and remembered a time before IRBs existed. Without the use of an IRB that day, he said the possibility of a tragic outcome would have been high as there was no way the two swimmers could have been reached so quickly.
Vote today to help East End Surf Life Saving Club replace their old equipment and continue keeping thousands of beachgoers safe each year.
